“For the People” describes their work as supporting prosecutors, community and lawmakers to bring people home from prison who can be safely released. The Foundation partnered with For the People with funding for the “Prosecutor Initiate Resentencing.” This project, with its beginnings in California, has created a path for prosecutors to, where appropriate, review sentences that may not longer seem just or necessary with the passage of time and the changes within the imprisoned individual. The Foundation aided this project with funding, over two years, of $60,000. This unique approach will provide the ability to offer second chances to those who have earned them.
